ACTIVITIES IN SPAIN
At our LTTA our students will have the opportunity of showing our partners the cultural heritage of our area. By then they will have finished their research on our traditional economic activities (fishing, shipbuilding, canning industry) and on the different natural and historical monuments that surround us. This way, although not every student will participate personally in the LTTA meeting, all of them will be directly involved and thus contribute to its success, since in different interdisciplinary lessons they will work on the topic and create products that will later be used in the transnational meetings.
The possible learning activities we would like to develop with the other partners are:
- Welcome activity, showing power points/documentary developed by the students about their cultural heritage.
- Guided tours prepared by the students, not only in our village but also in the different outings (Santiago, Oviedo, Celtic remains).
- Visit to protected beaches in Galicia and Asturias.
- Trekking along the Pilgrim’s Road to Santiago.
- Display of national costumes, traditional music performances and tasting of local dishes, prepared in workshops by all the participants assisted by the teaching staff of our school.
As for the methodology, at the LTTA meeting students will work together in mixed groups from the different partner schools and guided by a team of foreign and local teachers involved in the project. To enable all young people to successfully participate in the activities, we must bear in mind that they should be from a similar age group (14-16 year olds), but the tasks ought to be adapted to their different learning levels. Since we believe the teaching and learning process has to be focused on the students, we must remember heterogeneity is to be found so we need to be flexible and adapt to their interests and needs. We intend to use an active methodology so that students will be responsible of their learning and develop skills such as critical analysis, autonomy, collaboration and ability to search for and assess information. Their participation in these activities will let them exchange experiences while becoming aware of the value of the European cultural heritage.
Therefore, in the LTTA meeting students will get to know each other better and this will allow them to work on the progress of the project together and on the common products that we aim at creating by the end of the two years (booklet of costumes, leaflet with traditional dishes and educational unit about guided tours, among others).
Finally, all the students and teachers at our school will be involved in the project and will be informed about the different programmed events in order to encourage them to join the activities and interact with the project partners. Non-teaching staff and parents will be involved as well, both helping us in the organization and attending the special performances.
We also plan enough time for teachers meetings to assess the project development.
