__________BERGRHEINFELD (GERMANY)__________
Mittelschule Holderhecke Begrheinfeld is a Bavarian Middle School, situated close to the industrial town Schweinfurt. This term around 270 students visit our school, taught by about 35 teachers. Other personal include: a social worker, a secretary, a janitor. Students are aged 10 – 16. Our graduates mostly start job training or visit vocational schools. We have a high number of children with special needs (mostly learning and behavioural difficulties), all included into regular classes. Also many students don’t speak German as their mother tongue .Many students live in single-parent or patchwork families, facing financial difficulties. They are therefore less able to spend a lot of money on free time activities, for example sport, and don’t spend a
lot of money on healthy nutrition. Some families show little interest in the way their children spend their free time.
We have been involved in European projects since 2002 and actually have one Erasmus+ project (finishing in August 2020) and several eTwinning projects. Apart from that we focus on improving our student’s reading skills, the teaching of MINT subjects and on teaching music and drama (guitar and keyboard lessons, orchestra, choir, dance, musical and drama club). We also participate in regional sport competitions.
Our school is motivated to join this project as we know from experience that the whole school will profit enormously from the Erasmus experience. Many of our students spend most of their free time with their mobiles, playing videos games, watching serials or being active on social networks. The number of students being active in sports clubs decreases constantly. Also, we see a lot of students with locomotory and weight problems. Through Erasmus+ we have the possibility to get students moving and introduce them to a healthier lifestyle. Apart from that they will meet new people, broaden their minds and thus reduce prejudice. Those experiences will be invaluable to them and will be a life-long benefit.
We will live that project at our school, many students will be involved in project work and activities at meetings and during the whole term. Our staff will benefit of the project as we will get in touch with other teachers exchanging experiences and learn new methods .
We have a large group of teachers supporting Erasmus+ work at our school and if for any reason the coordinator could not continue her work there would be a teacher to replace her. There are many teachers willing to accompany students on Erasmus activities but also to do project work in between activities and to support the coordinator during our LTTA. We have specialists in different fields like languages, physical education, ITC, arts, home economics, science and, of big importance for this project, we have an expert adviser for PE (Fachberater Sport) and therefore very knowledgeable in our topic. Also our headmaster is aware of the importance of the project for our school and fully supports the Erasmus team.
