ACTIVITIES IN LATVIA

   According to the project objectives Rūjiena Secondary school is going to offer to the project participants a variety of activities which focus on both modern learning tools and innovative learning approach to the cultural heritage of Latvia, its traditions, sights and history.

   The program is going to comprise:

  • A workshop with participant/host students’ presentations about old and new photos of their home towns ; sharing ideas, discussion, socializing;
  • Celebration of the Europe day;
  • A photo exhibition of the ten best photos of each country;
  • A workshop on Latvian folk dances and songs, learning some national folk dance steps, singing national songs; giving a short performance with participation of all host/guest students;
  • A tour around Rujiena’s famous cultural and historical sights involving host students as guides and carrying out certain tasks,e.g., taking photos, shooting a video, preparing a digital tour, etc.
  • A workshop on national Latvian signs and symbols, bread baking traditions and an insight into Latvian cuisine, with practical participation and hand-made outcomes;
  • Teachers meetings on the progress of the project, summing up what has been done and what needs to be done;
  • Evaluation of the meeting and evaluation of the first year.
  • Presentation of the Latvian school system;
  • A trip to historical sites and places with national meaning and worth sharing with Europe – Cēsis, Valmiera, Mazsalaca and Āraiši.
  • A tour around Rīga – a unique European city with rich architectural and historical heritage with a variety of interactive facilities for youngsters.

   All in all, we are sure that the expected results will comprise both practical knowledge and have a deep impact on the participants’ understanding of another culture. The various workshops will teach practical skills and give a deeper awareness of a national identity within a European context.
