GENIKO LYKEIO KYPARISSIAS - kyparissia (GREECE)
The Kyparissia General Lyceum was founded at the beginning of the last century. Since 1976 it has been operated as a “General” Lyceum of KYPARISSIA. It is a senior High School and it serves 230 pupils as a center of cultural and social activity in a pleasant and creative learning place for teachers and students. Our school has multiple participation in the Pan-Hellenic competitions "Thalis" and "Euroscola". School pupils have been involved in Adolescents’ Parliament. Each year they participate in the Pan-Hellenic school games with exceptional distinctions. Since the research project has been introduced as a distinct module of the curriculum in 2011, a large number of research papers have been implemented about topics from history and science, for example: Cultivation of vine in Greece, Energy and Environment, Kyparissia in the passage of time, The Upper city: customs, yesterday and today, Earthquakes-Knowledge-Protection-Prevention, Numerical systems, Violence and extreme sports, A picture…. a thousand words, The place and it’s costume, Earthquake-Volcanoes, Travelers in Greece during the Ottoman domination, Games lost in time, History and Cinema, Lost Professions, Clothing and Fashion. In the Kyparissia General Lyceum school programs are implemented with an emphasis on environmental and cultural education aimed at acquiring student’s knowledge and education through the procedures proposed by modern learning theories every year. Finally, a large percentage of our students enter universities. In fact, one of our graduate students had the best performance among the students of prefecture last year. All the members of our school's Erasmus team have been coordinators and members of environmental, cultural, research and Comenius projects. They speak English, they attend regular seminars and workshops and they are informed not only about their teaching object but also about modern pedagogical methods. What was the main motivation for participating in the Erasmus Plus program is the need to develop a greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity, to exchange ideas and cultural views through a context of different behaviors and habits, which is part of the intangible cultural heritage and becomes important in the effort to build a more democratic and multicultural school precursor of a more open and humanitarian society, at a time when human values are at the core of European civilization and are now collapsing. Moreover, it is very important to create a school that is more open and outward-looking to a European reality adapted to its new developments and needs and to exchange practices, policies and systems in education. To sum up, it is a chance for both of us, teachers and students, to enjoy the joy of communicating with people of different national and cultural backgrounds in order to come back to a Europe open to the different and to provide opportunities especially to young people.
